Description: Pula Advisors is a social enterprise radically restructuring agricultural insurance. The organization is using technology to insure the previously unbanked, uninsured, untapped market of 1.5 billion smallholder farmers worldwide. Operating in eight countries across Africa and Asia, in 2017 alone, facilitated crop and livestock insurance cover to 611,000 farmers in Kenya, Rwanda, Uganda, Nigeria, Ethiopia and Malawi. Ichuli acted as an independent audit partner for Pula Advisors in Africa.

Working directly with insurance companies to audit farmer fields before final settlements are made, Ichuli was commissioned to audit farmer fields in the three regions of Iringa, Mbeya and Mbozi in Tanzania. Our auditors were required to assess the damage caused by the fall armyworm and provide recommendations on how to improve agricultural extension services to farmers through field officers. As part of the close out, the client was also advised on how to improve other core value chain activities like sourcing and application of inputs, agronomic practices, smart agriculture in semi-arid areas and appropriate post-harvest handling techniques.
