Description: The project focused on improving learning outcomes in literacy and numeracy among early grade learners in South Sudan in coordination with the Ministry of Education and UNICEF. As the Teaching and Learning Materials Expert in the project, Ichuli provided quality assurance and inputs to design and develop literacy and numeracy toolkits in five national languages, English and mathematics for Primary 1, 2, 3 and 4 learners. The toolkits included diagnostic and formative assessments, daily lessons and activities for developing local language and English literacy and numeracy skills for early grade learners. They also included teacher training and training of trainer’s manuals that incorporated principles of adult learning for supporting teacher educators to roll out of the model. Ichuli also oversaw the layout and design of the materials to facilitate appropriate presentation of information and ensure ease of use for teachers and trainers.
